SCOTUS denies Kentucky Clerk’s request to overturn the legalization of same-sex marriag

On Friday, the Supreme Court started discussions on whether the courts should revisit the 2015 landmark ruling which legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states. The decision was challenged by former Rowen County Clerk, Kim Davis, who was sued after defying the courts and refusing to issue a marriage license to David Moore and David Ermold, a same-sex couple. She was ordered to pay $50,000 to the couple.

The win of their lawsuit led to her to appeal the court’s decision multiple times, with each of her appeals being taken down.

Though the courts agreed to decline the appeal, it sets no precedent. Another appeal working to overturn Obergefell will mean the courts will have to review the appeal from scratch.
