A local middle school earned a spot on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report list of best public middle schools in Kentucky.
Corbin Middle School ranked #5 statewide and North Laurel Middle School ranked #16 statewide.
U.S. News & World Report, which is a popular resource for education analysis and rating, released their 2025-2026 Best Middle Schools report.
The factors that were considered when making these rankings were the following: mathematics and reading proficiency (50 percent), mathematics and reading performance (50 percent).
The U.S News & World Report ranked 869 middle schools in Kentucky.
Corbin Middle School received an overall score of 98.68/100, ranking #5 statewide.
A total of 62 percent of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 67 percent scored at or above that level for reading.
The school has 657 students in grades 6-8. The student population is made up of 46 percent female students and 54 percent male students. 56 percent of students are economically disadvantaged.
North Laurel Middle School received an overall score of 95.03/100, ranking #16 statewide.
A total of 56 percent of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 61 percent scored at or above that level for reading.
The school has 963 students in grades 6-8. The student population is made up of 48 percent female students and 52 percent male students. 66 percent of students are economically disadvantaged.
