City, county plan Aug. 4 road work at future Paducah Sports Park site

A road that will serve as a main entrance for the upcoming Paducah Sports Park is set for rehabilitation starting next Monday, Aug. 4, according to the City of Paducah.

The city and McCracken County plan road work on Stuart Nelson Road Park to serve as the sports park entrance, which is currently under construction. The work is expected to take eight weeks, weather permitting.

Once the road project begins, according to the city, crews will work to maintain one lane of traffic on Stuart Nelson Park Road for businesses and homes. However, temporary road closures are expected for cross drain installation, and there will be “brief periods” when the driveway entrance may be inaccessible, the city stated.

Work slated for the road includes widening, curb and gutter additions, a new stormwater collection trunk line, and a sidewalk.

Part of the planned road work includes improvements at the intersection with Park Avenue — the city said widening Stuart Nelson Park Road to three lanes will allow vehicles to have a left lane and a right lane for turning onto Park Avenue.

Residents and business traffic that regularly use Stuart Nelson Park Road should expect reduced speeds, delays, and changes in driving surface while the work is completed, according to the city.
