A death investigation is underway after Louisville Metro Police recovered a body from the Ohio River near the base of the Lincoln Bridge early Monday morning.

According to LMPD, officers from the department’s First Division and River Unit responded shortly after 10 a.m. to reports of a body seen floating near the Louisville shoreline, close to the Purple Lot at Waterfront Park.

The River Unit located and recovered the body of an adult. Police said the individual’s gender, race, and age have not yet been determined.

This discovery comes roughly a week after a separate incident in which a man reportedly shot himself and fell from the Big Four Bridge. Authorities have not confirmed whether the two cases are connected.

LMPD’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Further details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
