A missing 6-year-old child died at the hospital after being found in a pool near Iroquois Park Tuesday evening.

According to Sgt. Matt Sanders, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to a report of a missing child in the 2300 block of Pikes Peak Boulevard at 8:20 p.m.

During the investigation, officers learned the child “may have had diminished capacity and possibly was autistic,” Sanders said.

LMPD then focused on searching nearby water hazards and residential pools.

Officers found the child in a nearby pool around 8:50 p.m. and despite life-saving efforts, the child died at Norton Children’s Hospital.

It’s unknown at this time how the incident occurred.
