On Monday, five Wildcats of the women’s tennis team will begin play at the 2025 Lexington Open, which is being held at the Boone Tennis Center until August 3. The Kentucky individuals competing among the world’s best include Marina Fuduric, Zoe Hammond, Asuncion Jadue, Ellie Meyers, and Reese Sager.
The Lexington Open, celebrating its 30th anniversary, will begin with qualifying rounds and then head into the main draw throughout the week in both singles and doubles. Some of the featured Wildcats will fight for a qualifying spot, while some have already found their way to the main draw.
Zoe Hammond, a rising senior, is among the many professional players that found their way to the main singles draw. After a huge All-SEC junior year, Hammond has been working to continue to improve on many assets of the game this summer. She will also team up with rising sophomore Asuncion Jadue for doubles, the duo which spent most of last spring season playing alongside one another.
Along with playing doubles with Hammond, Jadue will be a part of the qualifying singles bracket along with freshman newcomer Reese Sager. These qualifying singles matches will be on Monday, June 28. Both matches will be on court two with Sager’s match beginning no earlier than 1 p.m. EST and Jadue’s match at 7 p.m. EST.
The two remaining Wildcats in Myers and incoming transfer Fuduric will battle in doubles as well. Myers hopes to show Fuduric what it’s like to play in front of a home crowd at the Boone.
